CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION.

IT’S TIME.

Congratulations! Your about to make one of the most important decisions of your entire pregnancy. Taking a childbirth education class is your first step towards an empowered, informed, and confident labor and delivery.

be prepared.

This 3-hour course will equip you to make informed decisions about how you bring your baby into the world. We will discuss everything from labor positions to newborn care. You have the added bonus of learning all of this from a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse Midwife (who still works at the bedside as a Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby nurse). With a focus on the midwifery-model of care, your eyes will be opened to all of your options to facilitate physiologic birth.

YOU WILL LEARN:

  • We will discuss the signs and symptoms of labor. You will learn about each of the three stages of labor and learn about the variations in length of labor.

  • Labor and delivery can be unpredictable. Some babies come early and some hang around past their due date. Sometimes babies are born by cesarean section instead of vaginally. We will discuss the many ways labor can vary so that you can be mentally prepared.

  • Labor isn’t painful but it is uncomfortable. We will learn about all of the pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic pain management options as well as the many different ways your partner and care team can support you.

  • So much changes after delivery. We will learn about all of the ways our bodies change after delivery. We learn about post-birth warning signs and ways to stay healthy after baby.

  • We will cover everything from swaddling and diaper changing to newborn warning signs. We will take the mystery out of caring for a newborn.

  • We will learn about the anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding and the different stages of lactations. We will also learn about the challenges that some may experience while trying to establish breastfeeding.
